Vefa Bozacisi occupies a storefront with tall, narrow windows framed by dark green wood and a polished marble threshold. Since eighteen seventy-six, this shop has served boza, a thick, fermented grain drink that became a staple of Ottoman street life. Haji Sadik Bey opened these doors after bringing the recipe from Albania. Even today, the shop retains the original marble counter where a heavy glass jar once held the chickpeas that the neighborhood night watchmen used to signal their presence during the winter months.
