Falmouth Park

Falmouth Road Park is a small but vital community space in the heart of Borough. It began as a hidden and overlooked plot on the corner of Falmouth Road and New Kent Road. In two thousand and six, the site underwent a major transformation led by local young people who conducted a street audit to determine what their neighborhood needed most. The redesign replaced an neglected patch of land with modern facilities including a ball court and a new play area. A unique feature of this project was the direct involvement of residents and students from the nearby Saint John's Primary School. They participated in art workshops to design custom park benches, resulting in one bench inspired by the architecture of the Tower of London and another decorated with intricate nature patterns. This park serves as a reminder of how active local participation can turn a forgotten urban corner into a safe and active environment for the community.
