White Hart, Southwark

The White Hart Inn was once a major coaching destination on Borough High Street, notable for its grand scale and its history as the headquarters of the rebel leader Jack Cade in fourteen fifty. During his brief takeover, the courtyard served as a base for his forces and a site for brutal displays of power, including the decapitation of high-ranking officials. The inn’s name was derived from the personal badge of King Richard the Second, who often used the symbol of a white hart with a golden chain.
