Moorgate tube crash

On the morning of February 28, 1975, a Northern City Line train failed to stop at its final destination, Moorgate station. Instead of slowing down at the platform, the six-car train accelerated, crossing a sand drag before colliding with a concrete wall at the end of a blind tunnel. The impact caused the first carriage to buckle into a V-shape, while the second carriage wedged beneath it and the third car surged over the top. This remains the deadliest peacetime accident in the history of the London Underground, claiming 43 lives and leaving 74 people injured.
