Oval Mansions

landmark

Oval Mansions consists of eight brick tenement blocks built around eighteen ninety to provide housing for the local working class. The structures were designed with a strictly utilitarian focus, prioritizing density and durability for the people who labored in the nearby gasworks. You can see the original intent in their simple, functional facades which lack the decorative flourishes common in other buildings from that period. The site occupies a direct line of sight to the Kia Oval cricket ground, and the upper levels were specifically laid out to accommodate the modest needs of Victorian-era laborers.
