Dutch Garden

The Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace was created in nineteen zero eight on ground that formerly held utilitarian potting sheds and greenhouses. Its layout was directly inspired by the seventeenth century Pond Garden at Hampton Court Palace. The design features terraced lawns, ornamental flower beds, and a central pond, all meant to offer a secluded space of repose within the broader royal grounds. A distinctive arched arbor known as the Cradle Walk surrounds the perimeter, formed by red-twigged lime trees that have been meticulously trained over an iron frame to provide a leafy, shaded view of the garden below.
