Manchester Square

Manchester Square traces its origin to the late eighteenth century, when the Fourth Duke of Manchester commissioned a grand mansion here. He chose this specific spot for his home because the surrounding land offered excellent duck shooting, a far cry from the urban landscape you see today. Once his house was complete in 1776, the square grew around it as part of the Georgian expansion of London.
