Saint George's Square Garden

Saint George's Square Garden holds a unique distinction as the first residential square in London to offer direct access to the River Thames. When it was originally laid out in 1839, the green space extended all the way to the water, where residents could board boats and steamers at a dedicated pier called Saint George's Wharf. This waterfront connection remained in active service until 1874, marking a departure from the traditional layout of London squares which were typically enclosed by surrounding buildings.
