Canal Cafe Theatre

The Canal Cafe Theatre operates inside a converted pub building that sits directly over the waters of the Grand Union Canal. This space gained its first major artistic reputation in the late twentieth century as the original home of the Newsrevue, a long-running satirical stage show. The production required the actors to constantly update their sketches to match the fast-paced headlines appearing in that morning's newspapers. This grueling format turned the theater into a training ground for dozens of comedians who eventually became household names in British television and film.
