St Mary's Secret Garden, Hoxton

St Mary's Secret Garden sits on a site that has been transformed from an abandoned council depot into a lush, seven-tenths of an acre woodland and community space. Local volunteers first cleared this neglected patch of wasteground in 1986 to build a site for therapeutic horticulture. The garden takes its name from a nearby church that was destroyed by bomb damage during the Second World War. Today, you will find a dense, interlinking series of garden areas here, including a sensory zone, a vegetable patch, and a woodland area that features its own active beehives. It serves as a rare, quiet refuge where nature is actively encouraged to thrive amidst the surrounding urban landscape of Hoxton.
