Harrington Gardens

Harrington Gardens stands apart from the typical white-stuccoed streets of South Kensington because of its architectural origins. While most of the neighborhood followed a uniform, restrained pattern during its development in the late nineteenth century, the houses here were designed by the firm of George and Peto to mimic the red-brick, gabled buildings of Ghent in Belgium. Sir Ernest George and Harold Peto spent their summers sketching on the continent to gather these inspirations, creating a picturesque departure from the surrounding styles.
