Dean Cemetery

The wrought iron gates of Dean Cemetery guard a landscape of tiered terraces and Victorian funerary monuments that spill down toward the Water of Leith. Established in eighteen forty-five on the grounds of the former Dean House, the cemetery became the final resting place for the city’s industrial and artistic elite. Among the weathered sandstone angels and granite obelisks, the grave of printer William Blackwood remains a focal point, marking where the man behind the renowned Blackwood’s Magazine was laid to rest.
