A neoclassical rotunda stands in the valley of the Water of Leith, topped by a statue of Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health. Lord Gardenstone commissioned this structure in seventeen eighty-nine after he claimed the mineral water cured his liver ailment. For years, locals flocked here with jugs to drink the sulfurous liquid, believing in its medicinal properties. The building eventually fell into disrepair until a local artist funded a restoration, leaving the goddess watching over the river ever since.
