The Magdalen Chapel

The Magdalen Chapel is distinguished by the seventeenth-century stained glass set into the windows of its south wall. It remains the only place in Scotland where medieval glass survives in its original location. During the reformation, when angry mobs were busy smashing icons and windows in cathedrals across the country, this small chapel escaped the destruction. The royal coat of arms of Mary of Guise and the emblem of the Incorporation of Hammermen kept the glass safe from the iconoclasts.
