Riddles Court

Riddles Court hides behind a narrow stone archway on the Royal Mile, marked by a faded carved date of fifteen ninety-one. This merchant’s house once hosted King James the Sixth and his bride, Anne of Denmark, for a lavish banquet while the city swirled in political turmoil outside. Behind the heavy wooden door, a stone staircase winds upward to the painted ceilings of the first floor. John Riddell, a wealthy bailie, bought the property in the seventeen hundreds, giving the court its enduring name.
