Circus Lane features a distinct, curved cobblestone path lined with low, two-story stone cottages that once served as the mews for the grand townhouses of Royal Circus. These buildings housed stable staff, carriage drivers, and horses in the nineteenth century. Sir Archibald Alison, a famous historian of his day, lived in one of the grand houses nearby and employed a coachman who resided here. The lane remains a residential street, maintaining the narrow, quiet character established when coaches dominated the road.
