The Cow Palace features a massive concrete facade with a rounded, barrel-vaulted roof that looms over the industrial edge of Daly City. Originally built in nineteen forty-one, the arena was intended to serve as a home for the Grand National Livestock Exposition. Its peculiar name came from a newspaper editor who mocked the state legislature for funding a palace for cows during the Great Depression. The building later hosted presidential conventions, Beatles concerts, and decades of professional rodeo events.
