June Jordan School for Equity

The June Jordan School for Equity occupies a long, low-slung building painted in bright, multi-colored panels that stand out against the neighborhood’s typical earth tones. It began in two thousand three as a small pilot project designed by local teachers and activists. They sought to create a school focused on social justice where students could address real-world problems in their community. The school became an official district campus in two thousand seven, named for the poet and educator whose works emphasized political activism.
