The Cleo Nelson Community Garden stands out because of the colorful, hand-painted wooden fence that lines the sidewalk. Before the city converted this lot into a garden, it held a vacant, fenced-off house that stood empty for years. Cleo Nelson, a longtime neighborhood resident, spent her own time clearing debris and planting flowers until the land eventually became a space for neighbors to grow their own vegetables.
