The Hayden on Hollywood Apartments features a sharp, white facade of zig-zagging geometric balconies that jut out over the sidewalk. Built in nineteen eighty-four, this structure replaced a neighborhood parking lot to provide housing for the local workforce. Architect Brian Tichenor designed the building to fit into a tight, irregular wedge of land. He used bold angles to maximize the space inside each unit. Residents here occupy a piece of modernism that rejected the traditional boxy shape of most urban apartment blocks.
