The Paramount Stairway is a steep concrete ladder of nearly two hundred steps climbing directly up the hillside toward the Hollywood Heights neighborhood. Built in nineteen twenty-three, it offered residents of the growing hillside enclave a shortcut down to the streetcars on Highland Avenue. Film editor William Hamilton once lived at the top, and legend says silent movie stars used these stairs to reach the nearby studios. Today, the stairs remain a vital, hidden artery for locals navigating the vertical city.
