The terracotta facade of the Warner Pacific Theater features intricate carvings of Spanish galleons and sea creatures that stand out against the plain neighboring storefronts. Sid Grauman opened this house in nineteen twenty, and it served as the flagship for his film empire before he built his more famous Chinese Theater nearby. The architect, Albert Lansburgh, packed the lobby with gilded molding and heavy velvet curtains to create an immersive, opulent escape for audiences during the golden age of silent movies.
