CBS Columbia Square

The building on Sunset Boulevard with the clean, white horizontal lines and the sweeping rounded corner was the first facility in the world built specifically for television and radio broadcasting. When it opened in nineteen thirty-eight, its architect, William Lescaze, designed it as a functional machine for producing sound. Inside these walls, George Burns and Gracie Allen recorded their shows, and Jack Benny perfected his timing. The layout focused entirely on the studios, keeping offices and technical rooms at the perimeter.
