Earl Carroll Theater

The Earl Carroll Theater features a massive, vertical neon sign running up the front facade, once boasting the name of the man who promised that through these portals passed the most beautiful girls in the world. Carroll built this venue in nineteen thirty-eight to house his elaborate, high-budget revues. He designed the stage with a triple-revolving floor to keep the dancers moving constantly. It eventually became the Aquarius Theater, where the musical Hair ran for years, signaling a shift from spectacle to counterculture.
