The Cinerama Dome is a massive concrete geodesic sphere, composed of three hundred sixteen individual hexagonal and pentagonal panels. It opened in nineteen sixty-three as the first theater specifically built for Cinerama, a wide-angle film process that required a deeply curved screen. When the premiere of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World arrived, construction crews worked around the clock to finish the building in just sixteen weeks. The dome has no internal support columns, leaving the entire auditorium space completely unobstructed.
