Otto Bollman House by Lloyd Wright

The Otto Bollman House clings to the steep hillside with deep, overhanging eaves and patterned concrete blocks that seem to grow directly out of the slope. Lloyd Wright designed this home in nineteen twenty-two, using the same textile block system his father, Frank Lloyd Wright, pioneered in Los Angeles. While the house looks fortress-like, the interior remains remarkably open to the canyon air. Otto Bollman, a wealthy haberdasher, moved here to escape the city floor, leaving his Hollywood shop for this quiet ridge.
