The Orpheum Theatre

The Orpheum Theatre features a vertical sign with bright red neon letters that blink against the skyline. It opened in nineteen twenty-six as the fourth home for the Orpheum vaudeville circuit in Los Angeles. During its first decade, the stage hosted Jack Benny and the Marx Brothers before the venue shifted to showing films. In the nineteen thirties, Judy Garland performed here as a teenager, still known then as Frances Gumm. The interior remains nearly identical to its original design by architect G. Albert Lansburgh.
