Angels Flight Railway

The two orange cars, Sinai and Olivet, crawl up and down the steep incline of Bunker Hill on parallel tracks. This funicular railway opened in nineteen oh one to connect the bustling commercial district below with the fashionable residential neighborhood at the summit. Colonel J.W. Eddy built the line using a counterweight system that allowed one car to ascend as the other descended. It once moved thousands of passengers daily, eventually becoming a symbol of the city's rapid expansion during the early twentieth century.
