The Music Center

The Music Center features three distinct curvilinear buildings wrapped in white Italian marble. It serves as the primary stage for Los Angeles’s resident symphony, opera, and dance companies. Dorothy Chandler spent years raising the money to build it after watching the city struggle to attract touring performances without a proper hall. She famously convinced the city's elite to contribute by personally visiting their offices to secure donations. The complex opened in nineteen sixty-four, centering musical life in downtown Los Angeles for the first time.
