Olvera Street

The brick-paved path of Olvera Street creates a narrow, pedestrian-only corridor lined with colorful stalls and historic adobes. In nineteen thirty, Christine Sterling campaigned to transform this decaying alleyway into a celebration of Mexican culture, successfully lobbying city leaders to preserve the site. She brought in vendors and artisans to recreate a traditional marketplace atmosphere, officially opening it as a heritage attraction. One of the oldest buildings here, the Avila Adobe, dates back to eighteen eighteen and served as a home for local families.
