Grand Central Market

The neon sign arched over the Broadway entrance spells out Grand Central Market in letters twelve feet tall. Since nineteen seventeen, this structure has occupied the ground floor of the Homer Laughlin Building, serving as a permanent home for vendors selling everything from fresh produce to prepared meals. In the nineteen twenties, city dwellers relied on its eighty stalls for their daily groceries. Today, the aisles hold a mixture of long-standing food counters and newer kitchens, all crowded under the same exposed steel trusses.
