The Los Angeles Theatre features a brilliant gold-leaf ceiling and a massive crystal chandelier that mimics the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Charlie Chaplin helped finance its construction so he could premiere his film City Lights here in nineteen thirty-one. The theater opened with such speed that the construction crews worked around the clock for months to finish the interior. Thousands of people waited in line for the opening night, eager to see the grandest movie palace in the city.
