The Broad

The Broad wears a honeycomb-like white veil of concrete and steel that wraps around the building, filtering daylight into the galleries inside. Eli and Edythe Broad spent decades building a private collection of postwar and contemporary art, eventually commissioning this space to house those thousands of pieces. Architect Elizabeth Diller designed the structure to contain an enormous, opaque concrete vault that holds the entire collection, with the public galleries floating around that heavy core.
