Chinatown Wishing Well

The Chinatown Wishing Well sits in the central plaza, built from stone and concrete in nineteen thirty-eight. It was part of the original design for New Chinatown, an effort to create a commercial space after the city leveled the old neighborhood for Union Station. Peter Soo Hoo Junior, who organized the merchants, insisted on this community gathering spot. People throw coins into the water to support local charities, a tradition started when the well opened. The coins are collected and donated to organizations in the area.
