Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall

Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall stands in the heart of San Francisco as a purpose-built home for the city’s world-renowned orchestra. Before this hall opened in 1980, the San Francisco Symphony had to share the neighboring War Memorial Opera House with the opera and ballet companies, limiting its rehearsal time and performance schedule. This new space finally gave the musicians a dedicated venue where they could perform year-round. It was constructed for twenty-eight million dollars, supported by thousands of individual donors, and named for its most generous benefactor, Louise M. Davies.
