The Museum of Modern Mythology occupies a narrow, quiet space on the second floor of a building in the Financial District. It houses a collection of thousands of commercial mascots and advertising icons. Lucy Lippard and Ellen Manchester founded the museum in nineteen eighty-two to treat characters like the Jolly Green Giant and the Pillsbury Doughboy as artifacts of cultural folklore. They filed them as if they were deities in a pantheon, documenting the life cycles of these corporate figures.
