Camellia Garden

The Camellia Garden in Golden Gate Park owes much of its current character to a significant private donation in the early two thousands. Nearly two hundred rare and storied camellia specimens were transplanted here from a private woodland estate in Woodside, California, after the death of their longtime collector, Marjorie O Malley. These plants, which include unique hybrids she spent fifty years cultivating, were moved by hand rather than by machine to ensure their survival. Today, they stand as a living archive of her work, thriving in the park's cool, coastal climate.
