The Cider Press

The Cider Press in Golden Gate Park is a small, wooden structure featuring a gabled roof and an open-air front that reveals the heavy iron grinding machinery inside. It was established in the late nineteenth century to process the bumper crops of apples from the park’s early orchards. William Hammond Hall, the park’s first superintendent, insisted on keeping the press operational to provide fresh juice to visitors. He often sat on the porch to watch children drink directly from the wooden vats.
