The former Christian Science church on Funston Avenue wears a neoclassical face of white terracotta and tall, fluted columns. Inside, the pews and organ pipes have vanished, replaced by rows of server racks humming with the collective memory of the internet. Brewster Kahle founded the archive here in nineteen ninety-six to build a digital library for the ages. He started by saving copies of websites, but he now preserves millions of books, audio recordings, and television broadcasts, all housed within these sanctuary walls.
