Colorado State Capitol

The Colorado State Capitol building features a dome covered in actual gold leaf, which glows bright yellow against the Denver skyline. This structure stands on a hill because an early surveyor, E.S. Nettleton, insisted the location provided the best view of the Rocky Mountains. Miners donated the gold for the dome in nineteen oh eight to celebrate the state’s mining boom. Some people still argue about whether the gold came from local mines or from out of state.
