The Oxford Hotel

The Oxford Hotel features a facade of rugged, dark-red sandstone and ornamental ironwork that distinguishes it from the surrounding rail yards. Built in eighteen ninety-one, it served passengers stepping off the transcontinental trains at Union Station. Architect Frank Edbrooke designed the hotel to provide luxury for travelers who had spent days in cramped rail cars. The original guests often walked directly from the train platforms into the lobby, where they found a carved oak bar and rooms with private bathrooms.
