The Wynkoop Brewing Company occupies a massive red brick building on the corner of Eighteenth and Wynkoop. It began in nineteen eighty-eight when John Hickenlooper and three friends opened the city’s first brewpub in a space that once stored dry goods. Back then, Lower Downtown consisted of vacant warehouses and quiet streets. The founders wanted a place to sell their own beer, so they renovated the dusty floorboards themselves and hauled in heavy brewing equipment.
