Larimer Square

Larimer Square features a row of Victorian brick buildings with string lights draped across the street. This block marks the birthplace of Denver, where General William Larimer hammered four cottonwood logs into the ground in eighteen fifty-eight to claim the site. When the city later shifted its focus toward the railroad depot, these storefronts sat empty and slated for demolition. A group of preservationists saved the block in the nineteen sixties, turning the old saloons and boarding houses into the city's first historic district.
