The Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel stretches for an entire city block along Court Place, identified by its sheer, hulking mass of brown precast concrete that looms over the sidewalk. When it opened in nineteen sixty as the Denver Hilton, it claimed the title of the tallest building in the city. Architect I.M. Pei designed the original structure, though his signature glass aesthetic is buried beneath decades of renovations and expansions that eventually transformed the tower into this sprawling, twenty-two story monolith.
