The Tortoise and the Hare sculpture in Copley Square features two bronze figures locked in a race that never finishes. Nancy Schön created the piece in nineteen ninety-four to honor the spirit of the Boston Marathon. She based the work on Aesop’s classic fable, placing the confident, upright hare well ahead of the steady, determined tortoise. The sculpture rests at the finish line of the annual race, where runners have touched the bronze turtle for good luck for three decades.
