Boston Marathon Finish Line

Two parallel blue and yellow stripes painted across the asphalt of Boylston Street mark the Boston Marathon finish line. Since nineteen eighty-six, this spot has served as the permanent end point for the world’s oldest annual marathon. In nineteen thirteen, Clarence DeMar won his first of seven races here, establishing a record for victories that still stands. The painted lines remain on the road year-round, worn down by city traffic and repainted each spring before the runners arrive from Hopkinton.
