Granary Burying Ground

The Granary Burying Ground holds thousands of souls behind a high iron fence on Tremont Street, distinguished by the slate headstones crowded together in uneven rows. Established in sixteen sixty, this site served as a final resting place for Boston citizens when the nearby King's Chapel Burying Ground reached capacity. Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Paul Revere share this earth. Most visitors walk past the grave of Mary Goose, whom many believe inspired the Mother Goose nursery rhymes, though historians continue to debate the claim.
