Old South Church in Boston

The Old South Church is defined by its ornate, two hundred and forty-eight foot tower of Roxbury puddingstone and sandstone, rising in a style architects call North Italian Gothic. This congregation began in sixteen sixty-nine, when members broke away from the First Church of Boston over a dispute about how strictly to test prospective members. During the years leading up to the American Revolution, the sanctuary became a gathering spot for town meetings too large for Faneuil Hall to hold.
