Sunflower Castle

The Sunflower Castle features a distinct bay window covered in intricate, hand-carved sunflowers that climb toward the roofline. Built in the late nineteenth century, this private home became a neighborhood sensation when a sculptor named Frederick Hallowell decided his facade needed more than plain wood. He spent years carving every blossom into the exterior trim. Neighbors reportedly complained about the noise and the unconventional design, but Hallowell kept at it until the entire front of the building bloomed in wood.
