Boston's Old City Hall

The French Second Empire style of the Old City Hall stands out through its heavy mansard roof and ornate, projecting window frames. Completed in eighteen sixty-five, the building served as the seat of Boston's municipal government for over a century. James Bryant Conant, later the president of Harvard, once worked here as a clerk. When the city offices moved to a new building in nineteen sixty-nine, the structure became the first to be repurposed under the city’s ambitious historic preservation program.
